The United Nations and Wuhan signed a contract to strengthen cooperation
Wuhan's international influence has been further enhanced. At 10:00 local time on 30 May in Nairobi, UN-Habitat signed a three-year memorandum of understanding with representatives of the Wuhan Natural Resources and Planning Bureau and the Wuhan Research Centre for Land Use and Urban Spatial Planning to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the New Urban Agenda. The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Mamuna Sharif, was present to congratulate him.
In accordance with the resolution of the United Nations Reorganization of the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (UN-HABITAT), the first UN-HABITAT Conference was held at UN-HABITAT headquarters in Nairobi from 27 to 31 May on the theme of "Innovation to improve the quality of life of urban communities". The Conference discussed such major issues as the strategic plan for 2020-2025 and invited the participation of UN member States.
The second memorandum of understanding was signed between the Wuhan Municipal Air Centre and UN-Habitat. The memorandum shows that the two sides will further strengthen the exchange of experts, provide the best example for sustainable urban development in China and other countries and regions, continue to carry out China's people-oriented urban public space projects, and establish and promote China's Place Building Alliance.
Develop the application and cooperation of the urban prosperity index project, as well as the Rural Revitalization Project and urban renewal project in Wuhan and other cities in China.
During the UN-Habitat Conference, the Wuhan delegation also presented the achievements of urban public space planning and construction in Wuhan to the world at the "Sustainable Community Planning, Urban Renewal and Public Space" Border Conference held on 30 May.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Mamuna Sharif, said that in the past three years, the cooperation between UN-Habitat and Wuhan had played a positive role in the implementation of the New City Agenda, especially the successful holding of the International Place Creation Week in Wuhan last year, and the joint cooperation of UN-Habitat and Wuhan had an impact on urban prosperity index and public space creation.
