On April 17, we learned from the 21st Meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress that there are 111 international friendly cities and friendly exchanges cities in Wuhan, ranking first among the 15 sub-provincial cities in the country.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal Government, the work of Wuhan International Friendship City began in 1979. The first city to become an international friendly city with Wuhan was Dacha, Japan, on September 7, 1979; the latest city to be established with Wuhan was Bangkok, Thailand, on November 16, 2018. At present, the total number of international friendly cities and friendly exchanges cities in the city is 111, of which 28 are international friendly cities and 83 are friendly exchanges cities. As Wuhan's "International Friendship Circle" continues to expand, some international Friendship Cities have named their own city landmarks with Wuhan, such as "Wuhan Square" in Manchester, Germany, Duisburg, China, Wuhan Passenger Train, and "Wuhan Avenue" in Wanjin, Canada.
Every year, Wuhan will lead a delegation to visit Youcheng, sign an annual exchange and cooperation agreement, hold economic and trade fairs, and carry out investment and talent attraction. For example, the first "foreign factory director" of New China and the former director of Wuhan Diesel Engine Factory, Grisch, were introduced from Duisburg, Friendship City, Germany. In 2018, Wuhan led a delegation to Youcheng and other cities to carry out "double recruitment and double attraction" with a total contract value of 28.2 billion yuan.
